PHYSICAL THERAPY AIDE, PT Works, Los Altos, Ca (5/2012-current) Assist physical therapist with patients. Run rehabilitation program under supervision of physical therapist. Tasks include: set up mats for upcoming patients; Provide heat pack or assist patient with use of the bike or treadmill for warm-up; stretch patient; instruct and monitor rehabilitation exercise; and perform STEM or provide ice for patient to cool down. Outside of patient care, we are also responsible for cleaning all machinery and assisting in any tasks that help keep the facility running efficiently.
YOUTH SPORT COACH, Davis Aquamonsters, Davis, Ca (4/2009-6/2011)
Provide water safety skills for children ages seven and under. Teach vital water skills that will keep swimmers safe and comfortable in a water setting while promoting a fun sport that is enjoyable and healthy for all ages. Provide advanced stroke technique for children ages 8-12 so that they can compete and learn the important characteristics of being on a sports team including: sportsmanship, determination, work ethic, teamwork, success, failure, and much more.
CROSS-TRAINING INSTRUCTOR, Davis Aquamonsters, Davis, Ca (6/2009-6/2011)
Allowed kids ages 9-13 the opportunity to become better athletes and prevent athletically relevant injuries. Provided kids with knowledge and experience in proper stretching and exercise while also having fun playing a sport each day (i.e. ultimate frisbee, kickball, wiffle ball, soccer, etc.).
STUDENT SHADOW, Sutter Davis Hospital, Davis, Ca (6/2010-10/2010)
Received direct hands on medical experience following Family Medicine M.D. Dr. Kraig Katzenmeyer throughout his day as he saw patients. Was able to see and learn of many common medical issues such as cancer, diabetes, hypertension, osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, high cholesterol, fractures, stress, the flu, allergies, and many more. I also assisted in minor tasks allowing the program to work more efficiently and allow for more patient-doctor time with each patient.
EKG SEMINAR PARTICIPANT, UC Davis Medical Center, Sacramento, Ca (5/30/11)
Attended a continued education seminar, The “How To” of Electrocardiographic Interpretation alongside 200+ physicians. Enhanced my knowledge of the heart’s conduction and abnormalities, as well as its interpretation through EKGs and GXTs.
LATINO/A HEALTH INTERNSHIP, Oaxaca, Oaxaca, Mexico (9/2011-12/2011)
Spent 11 weeks in Mexico learning about the health system and how it differs from the health system in the US. During this time, we observed medicine in local clinics and hospitals for four hours each day. The focus of the program was to learn about another culture so that we can become more culturally competent physicians in the future and take better care of our patients.
